These female artists invest in clothes, makeup, and photography. When spoke to one celebrity, we got an insight that at times they spend more than TZS 1,000,000 per month on their personal branding. This is just hair, nails and makeup. What an investment? But all in all. We are impressed with the job they do.
Elizabeth Michael (Lulu) (born April 16, 1995) is an actress. In 2013, she won the Zanzibar International Film Festival award for Best Actress for “Woman Of Principles” She also won the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for Best Movie Eastern Africa. In August 2017, Africa Youth Awards named her among the 100 Most Influential Young Africans.
Lulu Diva (Lulu la Diva, Sexy Lady) born as Lulu Abbas on March 21, 1995, in Tanga, Tanzania to a businessman and a court clerk. When she was 8 her family moved to Dar es Salaam and she has been there since then. She released her first single, Milele featuring Barnaba in Dec 2016. She was a second runner of the 2013 Pwani beauty contest and the first runner of the Kibaha beauty contest. In 2015, she appeared on Mirror’s music video Naogopa as a video vixen. Since then she appeared on a handful of videos such as Belle 9’s Burger Movie Selfie, Baraka de prince’s Pamela and others still in production.
Her fame has been fueled by her strong social media presence. She grew up listening to popular music of the late nineties and began singing. She grew up in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam city when she came from Tanga. Those early struggles, lulu has said, helped fuel her drive to rise above the life of her parents knew. “I was always a model and an actress, and I always wanted to be a singer. For me, it’s all just one thing.” To reach that point, however, the Lulu diva developed personas for herself that would allow her to be a “new person.”
Her first break came in 2013 when the 18 years old back then became the second runner of Miss Pwani beauty contest and first runner of Miss Kibaha beauty contest. Those contests helped her modeling career in Tanzanian music video industry. Later on, she landed on a series of small acting jobs. Determined to make it in the music business, lulu diva took on backup singing roles for local Tanzanian artists. Later she starts singing her own music.
Lulu starts acting and done some of the movies such as PAIN OF LOVE with Vincent Kigosi (Ray) and NIKABU together with Kitale (in Macho Media Production) also acting TV’s series called HUBA at Africa magic on DSTV. Along with her acting, Lulu focused on her burgeoning music career by recording a song called “MILELE”.
Lulu Diva is a new upcoming Bongo fleva and afro-pop artist; Lulu diva’s musical career also began to take off as she released her first music single in 2016, MILELE featuring Barnaba Classic. Her role model in music industry is Beyoncé who influence her to love doing music since she was child. Lulu is new in the music industry, for the first time but she breakthrough from social media particularly after she released the video of MILELE song, then within a week the video viewed by more than 200K fans of Tanzania and East Africa coverage. By then that trends make her fame for being the first upcoming artist to hit those views in Bongo Fleva music atmosphere ever.
Marianne Mdee better known as Mimi Mars was born in Paris, France on 21 June 1992. She grew up in Arusha, Tanzania and attended Arusha Modern School and St. Catherine’s Mountain View in Nairobi. Born to a musical family, Mimi has followed closely in the footsteps of her sisters Vanessa Mdee and Nancy Hebron in the media and music scene. In 2018, the three collaborated for the first time on the song “Beautiful Jesus”. She is definitely a star to watch out for in East Africa in 2019.
A shining star out of Tanzania, Mimi Mars is soaring in her music career and also made her debut on Coke Studio Africa 2019 – in the Big Break segment. Many have called her a triple threat. Mimi, who started out as a YouTube personality has over the years worked to establish herself as a TV host, Mcee and singer. Her music has been smashing the charts in East Africa, with tracks like “Kodoo”, “Shuga” and “Papara” slowly becoming singalongs for lovers of Bongo Flava. On Coke Studio Africa, Mimi will be performing alongside King Saha (Uganda) and Yared Negu (Ethiopia).
She Started off as a TV host in Tanzania, Mimi hosted the popular Weekend Gossip show on TV1. Her break into the music scene came in 2017 when she released her debut single “Shuga”. Her sultry tone coupled with amazing vocals made the song such a hit across East Africa – earning her well-earned recognition. She has gone on to release more hits among them “Sitamani” and “Dedee”, and collaborated with Quick Rocka on the track “Down.” Mimi is signed on to Tanzanian label Mdee Music – run by East Africa’s first lady of pop Vanessa Mdee, who also happens to be her sister. Getting onto the music scene as part of a musical family has solidified Mimi’s brand. Another one of her sisters, Nancy Hebron, is a gospel singer.
Nandy (born November 9, 1992) is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter. She won the All Africa Music Awards in the best female artist in East Africa category in 2017
Nandy was born in Moshi, and her parents, Mary Charles, a tailor and Charles Mfinanga, a mechanic. The name Nandy is shortened from her real name Nandera. She started performing at a very tender age. At 5 years of age, she was an active member of her Sunday school choir at the KKKT Lutheran church in Moshi. She attended Mawenzi Primary School and later joined Lomwe High School where she became the head of the School choir. After high school, she joined the College of Business Education (CBE), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Her career in music kicked off when a common friend introduced her to Ruge Mutahaba, CEO of Tanzania House of Talent (THT). This is where she met Emma the Boy, who produced her first mainstream single, Nagusagusa. The song became a huge hit within a week of its release. In early 2016 she participated in a singing competition Tecno own the stage. The contest featured contestants from all over Africa and during the finals in Lagos, Nigeria. Nandy emerged as the first runner-up. The competition groomed her well music-wise, as she gained performance confidence, and also acquired essential knowledge of the music industry from the musical tutors and mentors such as Chocolate City’s M. I Abaga, Yemi Alade and Bien of Sauti Sol
In 2017 she released her hit single One Day which spearheaded her career and gave her a couple of opportunities as she was one of the few artists who participated in Coke Studio Africa in 2017 and later the same year she was nominated in the All Africa Music Awards as best female eastern Africa and won.
Jacqueline Wolper Massawe born in Moshi, Tanzania, 6 December 1987, she is a known actress and a designer from Tanzania. Wolper has acted in many local movies. Some of her famous movies include: Tom Boy, Crazy Desire, Mahaba Niue, I am Not Your Brother, Chaguo Langu, Dereva Taxi, Shoga Yangu na Family Tears.
Jacqueline Wolper Massawe went to Mawenzi primary school and later on moved to Magrath, Ekenywa and Masai for her secondary education, up to year 2000. She got further studies in business before starting her movie career.
Tanzanian songstress/ Model Hamisa Mobetto is now a clothing designer and continues to pursue her music career. Hamisa is a video vixen, brand ambassador, singer, and mother to Diamond’s son and Majizo’s daughter.
Gigy Money’s real name is Gift Stanford; born in 16 Juni 1997 She is a musician and was a video queen of bongo flavor. Gigi is a second born to Stanford family. She graduated her secondary education at Keko secondary school. She started off as a media presenter and thereafter she got a lot of publicity from the video vixen. We saw her on Dully sykes video. Then her love controversy with fellow presenter, the baby and launching her own single that was a hit, left many Tanzanians and her fans to love her some more.
Wema Sepetu (born 28 September 1988) is a Tanzanian actress and beauty contestant who won the Miss Tanzania contest in 2006 Miss Tanzania. She represented Tanzania in Miss World 2006, which was held in Poland. She later became an actress in Tanzania. She hails from a Diplomat Family of the Late Abraham Sepetu. She is the last born in a family of four children. She obtained her primary, secondary, and high school education at Academic International School in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and she later joined the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia to pursue an international business course which she did for a one-year and then dropped out to continue with acting. Wema is an actress and now she has a new show called Cooking with Wema Sepetu.
